The best sobriety apps, and which one fits your goal
“Sobriety app” covers very different things: counters for long-term recovery, peer communities, and games for a short break. Here’s how to tell them apart.
Updated October 15, 2026 · By the Dry Quest team
Full disclosure: we make Dry Quest, so it’s on this list. We’ve tried to be fair about every app, including when another one is the better choice for you. Details come from each app’s store listing as of October 2026; features and prices change, so check the store before you download.
First: what’s your goal?
- Quitting for good, or in recovery: look at I Am Sober, Sober Grid and Nomo.
- A sober social life: look at Loosid.
- A break or drinking less: Dry Quest is built for that. It isn’t a recovery app.

How we chose
We looked for apps that are available now on iPhone or Android, have a clear purpose, and are actively maintained. We grouped them by what they’re best at rather than ranking them, because the right app depends on your goal.
An app is not treatment
Apps are good at daily motivation and connection. If you’re dependent on alcohol, combine them with real-world support: a doctor, a counselor, or a mutual-help group.
Dry Quest is not medical advice or addiction treatment. If you’re worried about your drinking, the free AUDIT screener takes two minutes, and NIAAA’s Rethinking Drinking has practical tools. In the US, the SAMHSA National Helpline is free, confidential and open 24/7: 1-800-662-4357. If you drink heavily every day, talk to a doctor before stopping suddenly, because alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous.
